Salt City Burger Co.

Mmmmm burgers.....

I was sad to see Su Casa go on 5th South in Bountiful, but replacing it is a mouth watering burger joint. Alright, joint doesn't really describe this place. When you walk into the one in Bountiful you are surrounded by beautiful wood decorating the walls and bar. On a side note, for anyone that has been to Lagoon, I'll be honest, it reminds me of the ice cream place that is in pioneer village!

A good friend of mine was super spontaneous and invited me out this time! There is also another location in Sandy on appx 91st south and 13th east. I had put in on my list of places to visit.

I am partial to mom and pop burger joints, the ones that have been around since before anyone else can remember. This one is pretty close behind them. Started in 1960's on 33rd south as Fred's Burger Chalet. Sounds like my kind of place!!

I ordered a southwest burger. This was a 1/3lb burger topped with a slab of cream cheese (yes, you read that correctly), two ginourmous roasted green chilis, pepperjack cheese, and I added avocado! The menu says that this is a symphony of flavors, it was definitely music in my mouth.
I am a sucker for sweet potato fries and I am always on a mission to find the best. I hate to say it, but these are in second place, only next to Purple Turtle in
Pleasant Grove. They are fresh cut and you get a huge basket.
The onion rings are also stunning. They don't fall apart as you bite them and you can taste that they are hand dipped. A unique part of SCBC is the condiment bar they have in the middle of the restaurant. Pretty much every sauce you can think of from west coast to east coast, and of course the staples like: onions, pickles, mayo, jalepenos, etc. I think there was only a couple of things I was disappointed with the first was the bun, but perhaps it was just an off day, and second was the service. I don't think I have been in a restaurant in a long time where everyone looks so miserable to be at work. Again, perhaps it was just an off day??
pastrami and swiss sandwich

I also liked they have fresca on tap! I didn't try one of their shakes or malts, that will have to be for another trip!

Connies Cookies!

I am not one to have much of a sweet tooth. I think I used it all up when I was a kid, just ask my mom. This past weekend I was working at the Bountiful Summerfest with the Oak Pit BBQ Co. And saw people walking around with the fluffiest cookies I have ever seen.
I do love a good cookie though.
Behind us was a small booth with handmade cookies and some cute earrings. Well, people this is not a jewelry blog!! It's a food blog!

There wasn't much of a selection on the table the first day I went because she was almost sold out!!! What is so special about this Connie?? She is a yoga instructor in Bountiful and Sugarhouse (a plus) and her cookies come in all tastes. All tastes you say?? Connie specializes in Gluten free cookies. This is a blessing for those of you with wheat allergies or Celiac disease. Connie also does vegan cookies and of course for regular people like me.. regular old cookies.

We are talking tasty flavors like triple peanut butter (gluten free), zucchini chocolate chip (gluten free), everything nice (which is like a little bit of everything), double chocolate mint, regular chocolate chip, and these awesome ginger cookies. I was wary because I am not a huge ginger person, but the ginger cookies are like gingerbread but a BILLION times better. She uses natural and the finest ingredients and the size and texture of each one is almost perfection. Besides cookies she also does cakes in the gluten free genre.

Right now she just takes orders through her email yogacookie@gmail.com and she is also at the Bountiful Farmers market on Thursdays from 4-7pm.

A family Affair

It was hard to name this one because this is the place that I went to in high school, and the past two were where my parents hung out. In Bountiful on 500 west is a little gem called Pace's Dairy Ann. I was fortunate enough to talk to the current owners nephew on the history of the place. The original owners had a Dairy Queen and bought the current location and changed the name and it has been serving since the mid 50's.

Pace's are known for their rainbows. My memories of this place are the awesome astro bars. Peach is the best!! Whether it is after marching in a parade or a treat for a church project, they are super tasty. Their onion rings and burgers also rank up there as being some of the freshest and most tasty in the area for the money!

My hopes is that Pace's will continue to be passed down through generations and stay in that spot forever!
